Kiwanis Trailer At Edmonton Heritage Festival

August 02-04, 2025 – Once again this year, the Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton trailer was at the Edmonton Heritage Festival in support of the Lost Child Centre.

Although there was some inclement weather over the three days our hardy Kiwanians shrugged it off and had a good time regardless, declaring it a successful weekend. Well done all!

Prior to the festival our club acquired 10,000 KCSE labelled wristbands so that parents could write their phone number and place the wristband on their children. These wristbands were handed out to Heritage Festival attendees with children.

There were few lost child incidents, and a couple “lost adult” ones.

In one case the “lost adult” case it happened to be a Kiwanian visiting from the Philippines. He noted that his club was celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Kiwanis Western Canada District Convention

July 25/26, 2025 – This year the Kiwanis Western Canada District Convention was held in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and eight of our club members made the trek to join in on the activities.

There was an extra reason for those in our club to be attending this year. One of our members, Tracy Madden, was installed as Western Canada District Governor Designate for 2025-2026. She was also presented with the Mel Osborne Award by the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada.

For two of our members, this was their first time attending a district convention, and for one other only the second, making it an excellent Kiwanis growing experience for all.

KCSE Annual Picnic

July 19, 2025 – It was a slightly dark and showery day, but the annual Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton’s annual picnic at Victoria Park went on as scheduled.

The weather did not dampen the spirits of the attendees, and as usual, there was more than enough food for all.

The biggest difference probably was that Barry Headrick, our photographer, decided to take the group photo under cover instead of out in the open.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Building

July 12, 2025 – The Kiwanis Club of Edmonton was joined by the Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton, the Kiwanis Club of Edmonton – Oil Capital, and the Kiwanis Club of Sherwood Park in a bed building project on behalf of Sleep In Heavenly Peace.

As a result of the great turnout, enthusiasm of the bed builders, and the lovely treatment by Mother Nature, the target of having twenty beds built was shattered with a final tally of thirty-eight beds.

Congratulations to all participants. Now for next year, with the date already set for 25 Jul 2026.

Western Canada Kiwanis District Governor Visit

May 02, 2025 – McKenna Coran entered the history books at Kiwanis International on 10 Aug 2024 at the District Convention in Calgary, when she was officially elected as Kiwanis Western Canada District Governor for 2024-2025.

At that moment, she became the youngest person ever to become a Kiwanis District Governor. That says a lot about not only McKenna, but the Western Canada District as well.

Governor McKenna was in Edmonton to meet with Division Six Kiwanians, their families and friends, as well as any others interested in learning more about Kiwanis.

In addition to meeting the District Governor participants viewed the various club displays and took part in a Trivia Night along with a “bag” auction.

Recognition From Terra Centre

Mar 12, 2025 – Several club members visited the Terra Centre For Teen Parents for the unveiling of a plaque recognizing the $15,000 donation from the club towards their newly developed Parent & Child Engagement Space, designed to promote and enhance positive interactions between parents and their children.

Mill Woods Resource Fair

Jan 18, 2025 – Several club members were present at the recent Mill Wood Resource Fair, hosted by Christina Gray, MLA for Edmonton-Millwoods, as we shared information regarding our club to many interested attendees.

At various times during the three hour fair we had eight of our members circulating round the displays in Mill Woods Town Centre, an excellent turnout.

Christmas Tree Lot 2024 – A Huge Success

Dec 13, 2024 – Once again this year our South Edmonton Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot started very busy and was sold out within two weeks, with our last tree going the afternoon of 11 Dec.

We thank all those who volunteered to work at the lot, and all those who gave their support by purchasing their tree from us. A complete report of this year’s tree lot will be available in our upcoming newsletter.

First Colin W Reichle Scholarship

Oct 9, 2024 – Secretary Richard Le Sueur represented the Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton at the Terra Centre for Teen Parents where he presented Emily with her scholarship.

The Colin W Reichle Scholarship will be an annual award to Terra Centre participants who are proceeding to post-secondary education.

The scholarship is in memory of Colin Reichle, a long-time Kiwanian who was a Past Club President, Past Western Canada District Governor and Past Kiwanis International Trustee. Colin had also served as President of the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada. He died from cancer in 2014.

Supporting All-Girls Baseball

Sep 25, 2024 – President Vicki Brown presents Samantha Bandlow, President of the newly formed Edmonton All-Girls Baseball Association, with a cheque for $6500 to help with their start-up costs. Accompanying Samantha is Amanda Warrington, an association executive member.

The Edmonton All-Girls Baseball Association was formed to support the growth of female participation in sports, particularly baseball. More information about the association can be found on their Facebook Page.

Edmonton Heritage Festival Involvement

Aug 2, 2024 – Our club trailer being set up at the Edmonton Heritage Festival, where it functioned as the Lost Child Centre.

Staffed by Kiwanis volunteers, the trailer was located centrally having high visibility to the public from all directions.

This was the second year that the Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton had worked with the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association to provide an easily identifiable Lost Child Centre for the festival.

Unfortunately, the festival was cut short this year due to volatile weather issues.
